Manufacturing Field Excellence Award

Zach Czaia

Since joining the team three years ago, Zach has proactively advanced his career by fully leveraging Keeley’s development resources—including KeeleyU, book studies, and 1:1 coaching. His dedication to growing his skills has truly shined over the past year across multiple challenging projects. The first was the Ameren Keokuk Hydro Powerplant on the Mississippi River, where Zach faced significant logistical obstacles in transporting material, equipment, and crews across a half-mile dam. Through strong relationship-building with Ameren’s team, he secured access to the tram and bridge crane, enabling the project’s success. As a result of his leadership and collaboration, Keeley is now being recommended as a preferred contractor for future work at the site. The second major project was the Ameren Decatur Data Center Upgrades. Keeley’s relationship with this facility had been strained due to a difficult project in 2018. With the same site manager still in place, Zach was able to rebuild trust, shift their perception, and restore confidence in Keeley’s capabilities. His customer-centric approach—focused on understanding Ameren’s fears and pain points—ultimately leading to an additional $15M in awarded work. Thank you, Zach, for your leadership, dedication, and continued commitment to growth. You exemplify what it means to be a Keeley'n! Congratulations, Zach!

Vulcan Materials Tunnel

The Vulcan Box Culvert & Tunnel Project represents a milestone achievement for Keeley Construction and the Texas Civil Region. Negotiated directly with Vulcan Materials, this project reflects the trust built through years of strong performance and relationship-driven partnership. From the start, Keeley was viewed as a true collaborator, working closely with Vulcan and HDR Engineering during design to improve constructability, enhance cost efficiency, and maintain all safety and quality expectations.

With each section weighing approximately 25,000 pounds and the entire subgrade composed of solid rock, the work required precision, thoughtful planning, and careful coordination. Keeley also partnered extensively with the Texas Department of Transportation to manage traffic control, execute traffic switches, and uphold the highest standards of safety and workmanship throughout construction.

The project was a success on all fronts; technically, financially, and relationally. Paving Project of the Year

Lee Summit - Lowe's

The Lowe’s Parking Lot Improvement Project is a standout example of technical expertise, proactive problem-solving, and true client partnership, making it a deserving contender for National Paving Project of the Year. The original scope called for full-lot soil stabilization, but after completing Phase 1, our team uncovered nearly eight inches of existing asphalt beneath the surface. Understanding that continuing with the initial plan would significantly increase material usage and cost, the team immediately met with Lowe’s to present the findings and recommend a more effective approach.

We proposed an innovative alternative, a 2-inch mill and overlay with targeted patching, enhanced with a Liberty Tire rubber additive for improved performance and longevity. This solution minimized disruption, increased value, and provided a more sustainable, high-performing pavement structure. Lowe’s approved the revised approach and reinforced their confidence by agreeing to an extended warranty on the work. The project ultimately delivered exceptional quality, strengthened trust with the client, and showcased the team’s ability to adapt, innovate, and exceed expectations.

Paving Maintenance Project of the Year

Walmart #341 in Marysville, Kansas

This maintenance project began as a straightforward scope, but as work progressed, our team identified additional needs that would significantly improve the overall condition and performance of the site. After coordinating with the Walmart regional manager, we expanded the project to address these concerns, strengthening the final result for both the client and our team. Account Manager Zack Limoges played a key role in securing the added scope, while Superintendent Spencer Rushing led the onsite efforts, maintaining schedule discipline and guiding the team through a tight three-week timeline.

The opportunity arose while the store was undergoing a remodel, and FS Manager Tim Day invited us to evaluate the parking lot. After reviewing our recommendations, Tim advocated for expanding the work into a full-lot mill and overlay paired with concrete truck dock repairs. He then partnered with Walmart’s Parking Lot Program Manager, Charlie Gandrilla, to classify this as a special project. Even with a demanding deadline tied to the store’s Grand Re-Opening on October 31st, our team delivered on time, on budget, and with exceptional quality.
